Open Water Lubricated Bearing

Compac
Years of exprience and solid reference in marine applications have earned Thordon Bearings a reputation as the premiere supplier of water lubricated bearing systems. Bearing Systems have been specified for the years in Naval and Coast Guard vessels. More recently, commerical owners and managers, including major cruise ship operators, are also choosing COMPAC for its pollution free simplicity and reliability. Thordon's COMPAC system is a viable alternative to conventional oil lubricated stern tube systems. In blue water operation, COMPAC bearings are capable of reaching the 10 year docking cycle before replacement is necessary.

Composite
Thordon Composite bearings are specially formulated to provide superior wear life in very abrasive water conditions. Composite bearings run in combination with hard coated nickel-chrome-boron shaft sleeves routinely outlast rubber bearings by a factor of 2 or more. This outstanding performance has made Thordon Composite a natural choice for cutterhead dredge bearing applications. Fiftten years experience on hundreds of vessels operating on America's muddy Mississippi River system confirms real life bearing wear at between 0.25-0.38 mm (0.010" - 0.015") per year.

XL
Thordon XL is a general purpose bearing offering superior performance compared to competative bearings. Our traditional propeller shaft bearing. Thordon XL is available in stave and tube configuration.

Bearing Configurations
Thordon SXL, XL and Composite propeller shaft and rudder bearings are available as grooved or ungrooved tubes, as well as staxi, dovetail and custom molded 1 metre (39") long staves. Thordon bearings in tubes configuration, including COMPAC may be installed full form in one piece or in several different Thordon split bearing designs.

Sealing Options
Two forward sealing options are available for Thordon's open water lubricated bearing systems. Seallion-C semi-split mechanical gace seals offer proven reliable performance without contact or wear of the shaft liner. Thordon's Automatic Stuffing Box eliminates the frequent adjustments and shart wear resuming from overtightening, that is common with conventional stuffing boxes. Art inflatable static emergency seal is standerd on both sealing options.
